K Karl McFarlane

I’m a visual artist and digital designer. For my fine arts practice, I focus on printmaking, drawing, sculpture and installations. My video work is mostly abstract.

My digital design journey has come full circle. It began while I worked for the government. There, my eyes were opened to a new medium through which I could explore my cherished design principles and sensibilities. I got to dip my toes into a variety of print and digital products like posters, direct mail ads, websites and banners, Power Points and Prezis, and newsletters.

I soon transitioned into freelance, working with individual clients and companies on various projects. I focused on logos, infographics, and print materials.

I next moved into the nonprofit world bringing with me the skills I learned previously, digging into booklets and photography, creating motion graphics, designing for events and apps, and stepping to the other side of the design process by curating and creating content and curricula.

I currently work for a government contractor, consult with various companies on multidisciplinary design projects: anything from print to digital. You can see my technical experience below.

I approach design from an exploration in color, unconventional materials, and one’s interaction within an environment.
